Two men who were found dead in the Sacramento River last week have been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
The body of Robert Duke, 34, was found floating in the river near Jibboom Street on Jan. 17, and the body of 35-year-old Richard Henderson was recovered from the river west of the Jibboom Street Bridge on Saturday. No city of residence is listed for the men, and the cause of death for both is listed as undetermined.
Because the circumstances of Duke’s death are not known, the Sacramento Police Department reported that homicide detectives have begun an investigation. A passerby spotted the body floating near the eastern bank of the river and called police about 8:43 a.m., according to a Police Department news release.
Patrol officers from the department’s Marine Unit responded, along with medical personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department, and Duke was pronounced dead.
Henderson’s body was recovered by a Sacramento Fire Department boat crew early Saturday afternoon, after receiving a call about 12:25 p.m. Fire officials said the body appeared to have been in the river for some time.
