A Citrus Heights man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the discovery of skeletal remains Saturday east of Auburn, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Detectives on Wednesday afternoon arrested Michael Forest Abeyta, 28, in Citrus Heights.
Hikers found the skeletal remains of a human body Saturday along Foresthill Road between Upper and Lower Lake Clementine roads, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the skeletal remains were discovered away from the roadway in an area thick with underbrush.

The condition of the remains suggested they had been there for a long time, said Lt. Andrew Scott of the Sheriff’s Office.
Scott said evidence found at the site linked Abeyta to the location where the remains were found and to a relationship with the victim.
Investigators have a probable identity for the victim but are awaiting forensic results to make a positive identification, he said.
