Police have arrested Gurdeep Sidhu, 22, after he allegedly hit a 71-year-old woman and six-year-old boy with his car Wednesday afternoon, leaving both critically injured.

The woman and child were crossing Freeport Boulevard near Oregon Drive about 3:24 p.m. when a northbound car ran them over, according to a Sacramento Police Department news release.

Sidhu then allegedly fled the scene without stopping to check on the victims’ well-being before turning himself in Wednesday night.

Both victims remained in critical condition at UC Davis Medical Center as of noon Thursday.

Sidhu was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. He remains in Sacramento County Main Jail without bail ahead of his first court appearance at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 8.
