Ceremonies to honor law enforcement officers killed in line of duty

The public is invited to join local and state law enforcement agencies in ceremonies honoring officers who have died in the line of duty and their families.

Three events are scheduled beginning at noon Thursday with the 13th annual Remembrance Ceremony at the Sacramento Police and Sheriff’s Memorial, at 500 Arden Way in Sacramento.

On Sunday, the California Peace Officers Memorial Foundation will hold a candlelight vigil. It will begin at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m., at the California Peace Officers Memorial Monument, at 10th Street and Capitol Mall.

The California Peace Officers Memorial dedication ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, also at the California Peace Officers Memorial Monument at 10th Street and Capitol Mall.

Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy Danny Oliver will be honored at all three events, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. Oliver was killed in October during a two-county shooting rampage in which Placer County sheriff’s detective Michael Davis Jr. also was slain.

The week of May 11-17 has been designated National Police Week.

Call The Bee’s Cathy Locke, (916) 321-5287.
