A man who appeared poised to jump from an Interstate 80 overpass in Sacramento County has been detained.
Westbound lanes of Interstate 80 at Watt Avenue in northern Sacramento County were closed due to the actions of the man who was apparently threatening to jump from the overpass. All lanes have now re-opened.
At about 10 a.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a woman who said someone was walking in and out of traffic on the Longview Drive overpass. The man was seemingly trying to be struck by passing cars.
The same man then climbed over the guardrail of the overpass on Watt Avenue and appeared intent on leaping down onto the freeway. Traffic was held up on westbound I-80 for about 90 minutes as deputies talked with the man in his 30s.
