The teenager who drowned in the Sacramento River on Saturday has been identified as Jay Wells by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday, callers reported that a person had gone missing near Sand Cove Park along Garden Highway.

Crews from the Sacramento Fire Department, Drowning Accident Rescue Team and Yolo County Sheriff’s Office scoured the river for several hours.

DART divers found the body, and 15-year-old Wells of Sacramento was declared dead at 2:50 p.m. Saturday.
