Sacramento police investigate death of child in south Sacramento

Sacramento police are investigating the death of a child in south Sacramento after being contacted by the Sacramento Fire Department.

Police spokesman Officer Justin Brown said officers responded to the 3900 block of Mack Road at 2:20 p.m. at the request of Fire Department personnel. He said the child had some sort of medical condition and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child, who Brown described only as younger than 12, showed no physical signs of trauma. Brown said homicide detectives had been summoned to determine whether the death was suspicious.

He said investigators have been talking with family members, who have been cooperative, and also have canvassed the neighborhood.
