A class designed for newly licensed and prospective teenage drivers and their parents will be offered in Rancho Corodva in coming weeks.

The California Highway Patrol's East Sacramento Area Office is accepting applications for the free two-hour Start Smart class scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 30, May 14 and May 28. The sessions will held at the CHP office, 11336 Trade Center Drive.

The Start Smart program targets drivers 15 to 19 years old, and their parents or guardians. The class covers collision trends and avoidance techniques, distracted driving laws and alcohol-related driving laws. Participants also will have an opportunity to ask questions of CHP officers.

To sign up for the class, or for more information, call the CHP's East Sacramento Area Office at 916-464-1450, or email Officer Tommy Riggin at triggin@chp.ca.gov.
