A 10-year-old Truckee boy was arrested for investigation of arson Wednesday after allegedly setting numerous fires in Tahoe-Donner, Truckee’s largest subdivision.
Truckee Fire and Police departments and the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection responded at 9 a.m. to a report of a grass fire in the yard of a vacant residence on Copenhagen Drive.
The small fire was quickly extinguished, but investigators found numerous other smoldering areas nearby where fires had been previously set.
The investigation led to a local elementary school, where the 10-year-old boy was identified as the person who allegedly intentionally set the fires, according to a Truckee Police report.

The boy was released to the custody of his parents. Because of his age, the case will be referred to the Nevada County Probation Department.
“This serves as an important reminder of the extreme fire danger we all face this year,” police officials said in a news release.
“Any type of intentionally and/or recklessly set fires will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” they said. “Please take the time to discuss fire safety with your children and always report suspicious activity.”
