UPDATE: Newcastle shooting suspect surrenders; Whitney High lockdown lifted
A suspect in a Thursday morning homicide surrendered after police surrounded an apartment he was in near Whitney High School in Rocklin.
Robert Yandolino, 28, was arrested without incident, said Sgt. Scott Horrillo, spokesman for the Rocklin Police Department. He is is alleged to be involved in the killing of one man and the injury of another during a Thursday morning shooting near Newcastle, authorities said. The incident prompted officials to order a lockdown at the school and shut nearby roads.
The shooting occurred shortly before 9:45 a.m. at a residence on Oakhurst Way in rural unincorporated Placer County, between Newcastle and Lincoln, according to Dena Erwin, spokeswoman for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
The man who died was shot in the head. The second shooting victim had non-life threatening injuries, Erwin said.
Yandolino surrendered at a friend’s apartment, Erwin said. The apartment complex is near Wildcat Boulevard and Ranchview Drive.
No motive in the shooting was released Thursday.
