A 14-year-old died in a rollover accident Wednesday on Highway 65 in Yuba County that left another passenger and the driver injured, authorities said.
The girl died as a result of trauma to the upper body in the incident, which happened at 9:25 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Passenger Sean O’Neill, 49, suffered a broken shoulder. The driver, identified as a 16-year-old female, suffered a laceration to the head, CHP said. The three are from Grass Valley.
The 16-year-old was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV on northbound Highway 65 near Forty Mile Road when she suddenly drove onto the east shoulder of the highway, according to the CHP. She then turned the vehicle to the left, causing it to skid out of control.
The vehicle exited the east side of the roadway, where it began to roll over, according to a CHP collision report.
