Man fatally shot by Elk Grove police in hotel hallway identified by Coroner’s Office
The man fatally shot by Elk Grove police officers inside a hotel Saturday morning has been identified as Nolberto Hernandez Leon, a 26-year-old Sacramento resident.
About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the Extended Stay America hotel at 2201 Longport Court to find Leon on the ground in a hallway clutching a gun. He then got up, confronted the officers, then shot himself before pointing the gun at them.
One officer opened fire on Leon, who died at the scene. It was not immediately clear whether he had been a hotel guest.
A woman named Bianca Mendoza posted to Facebook that Leon had been the father of her children.
Sacramento County Superior Court records show Leon pleaded no contest to driving with a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit and possession of a controlled substance in 2014. He was sentenced to three years probation for the former charge and entered a treatment program for the latter.
