An unidentified man was seriously injured when the pickup he was driving Friday crashed into a light-rail train in downtown Sacramento, officials said.

The collision happened at about 11:10 a.m. when a Nissan Titan pickup traveling eastbound on J Street hit a southbound Green Line train on Seventh Street, Sacramento Regional Transit spokeswoman Alane Masui said. The force of the impact knocked the single-car train off its tracks, disrupting service and forcing RT to bus passengers on its Green Line and Gold Line routes around the crash scene, she said.

There were no reports of passenger injuries, she said.

Firefighters were called to extricate the pickup driver, who was trapped inside the truck, Sacramento fire spokesman RobertoPadilla said. The driver had serious injuries and was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, Padilla said.

Masui said the driver was in critical but stable condition Friday afternoon. Information from witnesses and video “confirm that the driver ran a red light,” the RT spokeswoman said.
