Woodland woman convicted of workers’ compensation fraud

A Woodland woman who received thousands of dollars of illegal benefits was convicted of workers’ compensation fraud Aug. 23 after withholding information about her employment and income from insurance agents.

Rashimir Salazar, 43, was convicted for continuing to work while receiving temporary total disability benefits after after a workplace injury, according to a press release issued by the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office.

Salazar received $13,567.92 in workers’ compensation benefits after being injured while working for Woodland Residential Services in February 2014, but while receiving the payments, she illegally continued to work for a private customer, according to the release.

Salazar withheld this information from the insurance agency in charge of her case, and was subsequently investigated by both the company and the District Attorney’s Office, according to the release.

Salazar pleaded no contest on Aug. 23, and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years felony probation, 40 hours of community service, and faces $9,820.86 of restitution fees, according to the release.
