Davis man convicted of driving under the influence of marijuana
A Davis man was convicted last Thursday of driving under the influence of marijuana after instigating a minor traffic collision last year.
Dylan Dion Davies, 19, was driving in Davis on Oct. 16, 2017, when he made a left turn against a red light into an oncoming vehicle, according to a news release issued by the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office.
Davis police officers arrived at the scene of the collision, which did not cause any injuries, and determined Davies may have been under the influence of marijuana, according to the release.
Officers administered field sobriety tests and subsequently arrested Davies. Blood work indicated he had THC in his system and he likely smoked within two hours before the collision, according to the release.
After about two hours of deliberation, a jury convicted Davies and he was sentenced the same day, according to the release.
“Impaired driving remains a serious issue that puts lives at risk,” Rhonda Craft, director of the Office of Traffic Safety, said.
“In this case, we were lucky nobody got hurt,” Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig said.
