Three-car crash stalls I-80 traffic near Madison, closing two lanes
Traffic was heavily congested Wednesday morning in north Sacramento County as two separate vehicle collisions near Interstate 80 and Madison Avenue blocked lanes on the freeway and on Madison, officials said.
About 7:40 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to a three-car collision on westbound I-80 near Madison that led to the two left-hand lanes being closed, according to CHP’s incident log. Those two lanes were closed for more than a half-hour, with an ambulance dispatched, and reopened about 8:15 a.m.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire spokesman Chris Vestal said one person was transported to a local hospital with injuries. No other details about injuries were immediately available.
A separate crash on Madison Avenue near Date Avenue also required an ambulance, as two vehicles collided and temporarily blocked two lanes, according to CHP’s incident page. The intersection is less than a quarter-mile from I-80.
Caltrans tweeted about the incidents, warning that lanes closures were causing delays.
