Dog shot and killed after ‘aggressive’ attack on other dog, Rocklin police say
A Rocklin resident who shot and killed a dog that was attacking another dog did not commit a crime, authorities said.
Rocklin police responded to a call from the 6400 block of Sonora Pass Way, where the resident had reportedly shot an aggressive dog around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release by the Rocklin Police Department.
A man was riding a bicycle accompanied by two leashed dogs when another dog that had escaped its residence began to attack one of the passing dogs, the release said.
Investigators determined that, after the involved parties’ unsuccessful efforts to separate the animals, one of the parties used a legally possessed firearm to shoot the aggressor dog, according to the news release.
The attacking dog died at the scene while the dog that had been attacked was taken to a local vet for injuries, the release said.
“It was determined that no criminal actions were committed,” Rocklin police said in the statement.
No humans were hurt during the incident, police said.
The shot or shots fired led to a brief lockdown of nearby Rock Creek Elementary School, “out of an abundance of caution.”
No other details were immediately available regarding the incident.
