Two dead in Elk Grove in apparent murder-suicide

Officers with the Elk Grove Police Department found two people who had been shot on Elk Grove Boulevard on Sunday morning in what they are calling an apparent murder-suicide.

Around 12:05 a.m., officers were called out to Elk Grove Boulevard just east of Interstate 5 regarding a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road, according to a news release issued by the Elk Grove Police Department.

Callers said a woman was lying in the road next to the driver’s door and a man was slumped over in the passenger seat, according to the release.

First responders took the woman to a local hospital where she died, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

Detectives believe the man shot the woman before killing himself, department spokesman Jason Jimenez said.

Detectives believe this was an isolated incident and are not searching for suspects.
