Metro Fire is asking the public’s help to find gas station arson suspect

The Sacramento Metro Fire District is asking the public’s help to find a man who set a fire at a gas station in Arden Arcade on Saturday.

Just before noon, a fire medic unit that happened to be in the area saw the fire at a 76 gas station at Watt Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard, said fire spokesman Capt. Chris Vestal.

The medic unit was able to extinguish the fire, but crew members were unable to locate whoever started it, Vestal said.

Surveillance footage from the gas station showed a man lighting on fire the plastic gas can he was filling before kicking it over, Vestal said.

There was some damage caused to the gas pump, which the fire district said “could have been catastrophic.”

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or his whereabouts may call 911 or contact the Arson Tip Line at (916) 859-3775 or arsontip@metrofire.ca.gov.
