Former Foresthill fire captain arrested, facing 10 counts of lewd acts with minor, authorities say

A former Foresthill fire captain was arrested Tuesday and faces 10 counts of committing lewd acts with minors under age 14, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Gerald Norman Fogel, a 57-year-old Foresthill resident, was arrested by Placer County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday afternoon at his home following an arrest warrant from Contra Costa County, where the alleged crimes took several years ago, according to the news release.

The Foresthill Fire Protection District released a statement Wednesday saying Fogel was a fire captain there from August 2014 to November 2016 and has not been associated with the department since.

“According to information received from law enforcement, the charges against Mr. Fogel are not related to his employment with the Fire District and occurred many years before his short tenure with the Foresthill Fire District,” the statement said in part.

Fogel previously worked with the Fremont Fire Department, serving as a captain 2010 through 2012, city government documents show.

Fogel is being held in Contra Costa County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
