A head-on crash in North Sacramento involving a Regional Transit truck Thursday afternoon sent two people to the hospital.

At least one of the victims involved in the crash was extricated from their vehicle by first responders and was in critical condition, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.

Sacramento Police Department spokesman Sgt. Vance Chandler said the collision occurred around 3:45 p.m. and involved three vehicles.

Fire hazmat crews responded to the crash to address spilled fluids that leaked from the vehicles, according to the fire department.

One person is in critical condition while the other suffered “moderate injuries,” fire department spokesman Captain Keith Wade said, but added that a person in a serious crash may not have visible traumas but still have serious internal injuries.

“Any time anyone is involved in an accident in the Sacramento area that is the severity of that collision ... they need a rapid assessment at a trauma facility,” Wade said.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, Chandler said.

Traffic is impacted in the area and travelers are advised to avoid the area, Chandler said.
