Arrest made, pregnant woman in critical condition after suspected DUI crash in Rio Linda
A man was arrested Monday after a pregnant woman was hit by a car in Rio Linda in what California Highway Patrol officials said may be a drunk-driving incident.
Ronny Ward III, 23, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County jail after authorities responded to a crash on M Street near 4th Avenue, according to a news release issued by the CHP’s North Sacramento division.
Just after 8 p.m., officers responded to westbound M Street, where Ward’s Jeep was believed to have veered off to the right side of the roadway and crashed into a parked Chevrolet Impala, according to the release.
The Impala was pushed by the impact into a 23-year-old woman standing in front of the car who was later determined to be 6 months pregnant, according to the release.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the release. CHP spokesman Officer Mike Zerfas said she remains in critical condition.
Ward was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and driving with a suspended license, according to the release.
