‘Extremely intoxicated’ man with baseball bat arrested after breaking windshields, police say

Sacramento police arrested a man Thursday night after he got in a fight and used a baseball bat to damage cars before struggling with officers, police said.

At 8:20 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man with a baseball bat in the 5300 block of Stockton Boulevard, police said. The officers said the man was “extremely intoxicated” and had been involved in a fight. The man then used a baseball bat to shatter car windshields in the parking lot of a shopping center.

He “struggled” with officers when they tried to take him into custody, said Officer Linda Matthew, spokeswoman for the Sacramento Police Department. Officers called in additional units and it took several officers to arrest the man.

“The officers realized that he was bleeding and the guy said it was because he was involved in a fight with other people,” Matthew said.

He was taken to the hospital prior to being booked at the jail, police said.
