Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a November 2018 shooting that killed an 86-year-old and wounded another person in North Highlands, sheriff’s officials said Monday.

Detectives identified the suspects as Khalil Sabree, 23, of Elk Grove and Cochese Stevens, 27, of Oakland.

Sabree and Stevens are accused of shooting two people on the 7100 block of Flanders Way the night of Nov. 29, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The shooting killed an 86-year-old man, John Barton, according to the release.

Sabree was arrested in connection with the homicide April 15. He was already in custody in Sacramento County jail for unrelated charges, according to the sheriff’s department. Stevens was arrested Dec. 2.

Both were arraigned last week in Sacramento County Superior Court for charges of murder, attempted murder and first-degree robbery, according to court records available online. They are awaiting settlement conferences.

Sabree had been booked into the jail Feb. 6 after being arrested by Reno police for a felony count of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, jail records show.
