One of this week’s suspects burglarized the home of a pregnant victim: Sacramento’s Most Wanted for the week of April 16
An Olivehurst woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of killing her 1-year-old son in December.
Eleana M. Carbajal, 31, was taken into custody at her home in the 1500 block of 6th Avenue on a warrant after a months-long coroner investigation into the death of her son, according to a news release issued by the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.
Carbajal brought her unresponsive son to Rideout Hospital in Marysville on the morning of Dec. 24, 2018, where he was declared dead, according to the release.
She said the boy drowned in the bathtub earlier that morning and she tried to resuscitate him for several hours before coming to the hospital, according to the release.
Medical personnel said the child had several injuries and appeared malnourished, while law enforcement identified inconsistencies in her statement, according to the release.
An autopsy and toxicology report identified his cause of death as a lack of oxygen due to aspiration pneumonia – an infection caused by inhaling something into the lungs – and further found the boy suffered from malnourishment and was exposed to methamphetamine, according to the release.
Carbajal was booked into the Yuba County Jail on a $1 million bail.
