Three daytime robberies reported within an hour Thursday in Elk Grove, police say
Elk Grove police say three robberies occurred within about 40 minutes on Thursday afternoon involving multiple suspects, all of whom were outstanding as of Friday morning.
The robberies occurred between 1:45 p.m. and 2:20 p.m., and two of them involved a suspect brandishing a firearm, according to Elk Grove Police Department daily watch logs posted Friday morning.
The first robbery, reported at 1:45 p.m., involved a victim walking near the 9800 block of Denali Circle when a suspect exited a white four-door sedan and demanded the victim’s property at gunpoint, according to the watch log.
The victim handed over the property and the suspect got back in the vehicle, which had four other occupants who were described as three males and a Hispanic female. The suspect was described as a 16-year-old Hispanic male wearing jeans and a red-and-black hoodie, Elk Grove police said.
The other two robberies occurred at 2:10 p.m. and 2:20 p.m. a few blocks apart and involved very similar circumstances and suspect descriptions. Elk Grove Police Department spokesman Officer Jason Jimenez said these two are being investigated as linked.
The first incident occurred in the 8600 block of Elk Grove Boulevard. A suspect described as an Asian male between ages 17 and 20 demanded a victim’s property, according to the crime log entry. The suspect then assaulted the victim, taking that victim to the ground with assistance from a second suspect, described as a black male of about the same age.
The two suspects then fled into an awaiting vehicle, described as a newer white, four-door vehicle, police said.
Ten minutes later, another robbery and assault were reported nearby in the 9700 block of Tralee Way, which is across the street from Elk Grove High School.
In that incident, a male victim walking in the area was approached by two suspects — with the same description as the robbery and assault on Elk Grove Boulevard — who demanded his property, according to Elk Grove police.
The victim ran away but was caught by the suspects, thrown to the ground and assaulted while the suspects took the victim’s property, police said. A firearm was brandished at one point, according to the crime log. The victim sustained minor injuries in the assault.
The suspects again fled into an awaiting vehicle, described as a newer white, four-door sedan, which reportedly had two females in it.
“We do believe those are the same suspects” and the same suspect vehicle, Jimenez said.
Jimenez said the earlier involving the 16-year-old suspect is not believed to be have involved the suspects from the two later robberies. “However, we’re also looking into that just in case,” he said.
No arrests were reported in any of the three robberies, and the suspects involved have not been further identified.
