Sacramento police dog stops man during attempted midtown burglary

A Sacramento man was stopped as he was attempting to burglarize a residence in midtown by a police dog early Thursday.

Sacramento Police Department officers responded to calls of a burglary in progress at 12:19 a.m., according to department incident information logs. When they arrived, they discovered both residents were inside along with the suspect, who was later identified as 43-year-old Ruben Corpuz, police spokesman Sgt. Vance Chandler said.

Officers evacuated the two residents through a window and sent in a K-9 to find Corpuz, who was hiding inside the home, incident logs indicate. Corpuz was found under a chair in the living room of the residence, Chandler said.

The incident is not being investigated as a home invasion, Chandler said.

Corpuz was arrested on scene, Chandler said, and was taken to the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest, according to jail records. His bail is set at $70,000.
