Man arrested after police find materials to make explosives in Tahoe Park apartment
A man was arrested after Sacramento Police Department officers performed a wellness check on Saturday and found materials that could be used to make explosive devices.
Officers responded to 35-year-old David Wolpert’s apartment in Tahoe Park after a call for a welfare check, according to a news release from the department. When they made contact with Wolpert in his home, they found materials, chemicals and other equipment that can be used to make explosives.
The department’s Explosive Ordinance Detail team was called to the apartment, in the 5900 block of 15th Avenue, and evacuated other building residents as they cleared the scene, police say. No one was injured during the cleanup.
After an investigation, Wolpert was arrested on suspicion of attempted possession of a weapon of mass destruction. Police say Wolpert did not make any specific threats to any person, place or location and they did not locate any explosives during the cleanup.
The department is still investigating the case. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the department at 916-808-5471.
