Man convicted in connection with sexual assault on minor during home burglary
A man was convicted of three counts of burglary and one count of child sexual assault Thursday in connection with a 2017 burglary involving a 12-year-old girl.
Steve Vang, 34, was involved with several burglaries in south Sacramento between 2016 and 2017, according to a news release issued by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
During one home burglary in June 2017, the burglar entered into a 12-year-old’s room, where she was sexually assaulted. The burglar eventually ran out after she screamed and struggled, according to the release.
The girl ran across the street to a neighbor, where she called 911, according to the release.
When police arrived, Vang’s phone was discovered, with an internet history showing searches for teen abduction pornography, according to the release.
The victim eventually picked Vang out of a lineup and he was connected to two other home burglaries near her house, according to the release.
Vang faces 64 years to life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced June 7, according to the release.
