A man was arrested following a short pursuit and standoff after Sacramento police say he threatened to kill people in downtown Sacramento on Thursday night.

Officers responded to calls of a man threatening to kill multiple people in the area near the 1200 block of C Street at 9:22 p.m. on Friday, according to a news release from the Sacramento Police Department.

The man, identified by the department as Marc Austin, 41, was inside his red pickup truck when officers arrived on scene, the release said. When they attempted to make contact with Austin, he locked the door, rolled up the windows and drove away without turning on his headlights.

Austin drove his car into oncoming traffic, police said, and directly into a marked police vehicle, causing minor damage. He reversed and led police on a short chase through downtown Sacramento.

The chase ended near 19th and D streets after police say they immobilized Adams’ vehicle. Although he refused to exit his truck, officers pulled him out using non-lethal weapons at around 11:17 p.m., the release said.

Officers arrested Adams and took him to a hospital for treatment before taking him to the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, threats to commit crime, evading peace officers and driving opposite the flow of lawful traffic while attempting to evade peace officers, jail records indicate. His bail is set at $500,000.
