Two men have been convicted of first-degree murder in the 2014 slaying of 34-year-old Justin David Gonzales at a Carmichael apartment complex.
A Sacramento County jury Wednesday also found that defendants Christopher Bernal, 34, and Jacob Fisher, 22, were armed with a firearm during commission of the crime, according to a District Attorney’s Office news release.
On Jan. 18, 2014, Bernal and Fisher went to the Sienna Square Apartments in the 4700 block of Marconi Avenue. Finding Gonzales in the apartment courtyard, they beat him to the ground and shot him in the back of the neck, authorities said. The defendants reportedly had prior conflicts with Gonzales.
Bernal and Fisher are to be sentenced July 10 by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Greta Curtis Fall.
