Sacramento police on Thursday announced an arrest in the death of a man whose body was found March 5 in the area of La Riviera Drive and the Howe Avenue bridge.

Semaj Shawn Howard, 50, was booked on suspicion of murder in the death of Quincy Lacey, 37. Police said Howard is in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Officers responded about 10:24 a.m. March 5 to the 7900 block of La Riviera Drive regarding a report of an individual who appeared to be dead. They found a man, later identified as Lacey, who apparently had suffered gunshot wounds, according to a Police Department news release.

A preliminary investigation found that a report had been received about 11:15 p.m. March 4 of shots fired in the general vicinity of where the body was found. Officers responding to that report were unable to find a victim or evidence indicating that a gun had been fired.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting.

Howard is to appear in court Friday.
