Bicyclist killed by train in Elk Grove

A bicyclist was killed Monday after a collision with a train in Elk Grove, authroities said.

The collision happened north of Bond Road and east of Elk Grove Florin Road, the Elk Grove Police Department said on Twitter. In a news release, police said the bicyclist was an adult male who has yet to be identified. The victim was riding east on the northern side of Bond Road.

According to police, the freight train spotted the man on the tracks and honked its horn, but was unable to stop before hitting the victim. Witnesses said that the crossing arms and lights were working when the collision occurred, according to the release.

The investigation is being handled by the Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau.
