Sac Metro crews save homes from two Sloughhouse grass fires Sunday
Fire crews on Sunday night extinguished two wind-driven grass fires that threatened five homes in the Sloughhouse area .
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District firefighters were called to burning grassland in the area of Lakehill Court about 8 p.m. Sunday. Two fires were marching toward homes, pushed by winds.
Battalion chiefs strategically positioned a bulldozer, six engines and one water tender to contain both fires and protect the houses and families that remained indoors.
The fast-moving fire nearly reached two of the threatened homes, a fire district news release states, before being contained at about 9 p.m.
The fire near Lakehill Court burned 15 acres. The other blaze, near Sheldon Lake Drive, burned about 4 acres.
Cause of the fires is under investigation.
