2 shot at Northern California homeless camp, Sutter County sheriff says

Two people were shot Monday morning at a homeless camp just outside Yuba City, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said.

Yuba City police and Sutter County sheriff’s deputies responded just before 9:37 a.m. to a report of a gunshot victim near Burns Drive and Putman Avenue, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Responding deputies found two victims with gunshot wounds near the levee in that area, the news release said.

“One victim had a gunshot wound to the groin area and the second victim had a gunshot wound to the buttocks area,” the news release said. “Both victims were transported to the hospital and are being treated.”

The status of each victim was not known.

Detectives continued to process the crime scene as of Monday afternoon, and are asking the public to avoid the area near the levee.

No other details were immediately available, and no arrests have been reported.
