A Canadian man wanted for murder and a New York man housing him were arrested in Oroville on Sunday after ramming an armored vehicle trying to escape from a search warrant, according to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

Brandon Teixeira and Jeff Guerrier were staying at a home in the 100 block of Weedy Way in Oroville when they were confronted by detectives, U.S. Marshals and SWAT teams from Tehama, Chico and Butte, according to the release. The authorities had been monitoring the residence and obtained a search warrant Saturday.

Officers served the warrant Sunday, but Teixeira, 28, and Guerrier, 30, took several minutes to respond to officers. Teixeira ignored officer’s orders and got into a car, attempting to escape. He rammed into an armored vehicle and “rapidly backed up” in an attempt to escape. A second armored vehicle was used to disable Texeira’s car. He was later taken into custody with the help of a K-9 after again ignoring officers’ orders.

Inside the residence, officers found 26 pounds of heroin, over 40 pounds of marijuana and over a thousand pills of Percocet and OxyContin.

Teixeira has been on the run since October 2017 after shooting 28-year-old Nicholas Khabra multiple times in Surrey, British Columbia, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Khabra later died at a hospital and a nationwide warrant was issued for Texeira’s arrest. He was listed as one of British Columbia’s most wanted fugitives.

He is currently in the custody of U.S. Marshals who are holding him pending extradition. Local, state and federal charges against him are pending.

Guerrier was arrested and charged with harboring and concealing a wanted felon and possession of heroin and marijuana for sale.
