Man arrested for alleged spree of California yoga studio thefts, Roseville police say

Police arrested a man last week who allegedly stole cash and credit cards from customers of a Roseville yoga studio, with authorities finding that the suspect had outstanding warrants for yoga studio-related felonies in five other California jurisdictions.

Christopher Newton, 26, faces charges of identity theft and burglary after officers spotted him exiting a store, arresting him after a search revealed cash and credit cards reported stolen from a studio in the 1200 block of Baseline Road, the Roseville Police Department said Wednesday in a Facebook post.

Newton is suspected of entering that yoga studio and feigning interest in a class to gain access to personal belongings from the studio’s patrons, Roseville police said.

Police said Newton had five felony warrants – out of Monterey County, Walnut Creek, Berkeley, Belmont and Livermore – “for similar incidents within yoga studios,” according to the post.

Newton remains in custody at the Placer County jail, ineligible for bail due to the outstanding warrants, online inmate records show.
