Sacramento sheriff investigating shooting of intruder inside Orangevale home

Sacramento County sheriff’s officials are investigating after a man shot an apparent intruder Thursday morning in his Orangevale home.

The initial call came in just before 4 a.m. from the 7100 block of Santa Juanita Avenue, with a man telling dispatchers “he had encountered an intruder inside his home and shot him,” Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding said.

The caller reported that the intruder fled in a car, Deterding said.

A short time later, Roseville police found a male gunshot victim in a vehicle near Douglas and Sierra College boulevards, Deterding said. The gunshot victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, she said.

“At this time, we believe the male with the gunshot is related to the burglary call,” Deterding said.

The incident remains under investigation, with no arrests announced as of 8 a.m. No other details were available.
