Woodland man pleads to fatal drunk driving crash connected with robbery, Yolo DA says
A Woodland man pleaded no contest last week to three felony charges in connection with a fatal drunk driving collision that killed a passenger.
In a news release, the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office said Douglas Woodall pleaded to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, evading an officer and conspiracy to commit theft, agreeing to serve just over 12 years in prison.
The crash occurred on May 2, when Woodall, 23, fled from police north on Pioneer Avenue in Woodland after acting as a getaway driver in a robbery, according to the DA’s office.
Officers pursued Woodall at speeds exceeding 113 miles per hour as he ran through red lights, eventually crashing on the shoulder of County Road 101.
The passenger was ejected from a window and died on impact nearly 40 yards from the crash. Woodall was determined to have a blood alcohol content of .22, close to three times the legal limit.
Woodall is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 8.
