Man arrested on suspicion of raping, imprisoning woman while bringing her to Sacramento
A Corona man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of raping and kidnapping a woman with the intention of bringing her from North San Juan to Sacramento.
In a news release, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said Joshua Gaspar was taken into custody after receiving reports that there was a woman being held in captivity at gunpoint.
A caller told deputies that a 29-year-old woman had been held against her will and sexually assaulted for several days. The victim had apparently been able to get in contact with her friend while her captor was taking her to Sacramento.
Nevada County deputies and Grass Valley police officers located Gaspar and the victim at a gas station in Grass Valley.
Gaspar, 19, was detained as law enforcement determined that the victim was sexually assaulted multiple times and had been imprisoned for several days.
Deputies then searched the location where the woman had been held on the 12000 block of Shady Creek Drive in North San Juan.
Gaspar was booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City on a $1 million bail. Deputies believe there are likely additional suspects.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office at 530-265-1263.
