Situation with possible suicidal subject near UC Davis campus resolved, police say

A man threatening self-harm drew police activity Wednesday across the street from the UC Davis campus, but the situation has ended without incident, police said.

Authorities at 11:20 a.m. contacted a possibly suicidal man in his vehicle outside a restaurant in the area of Anderson Road and Russell Boulevard, Davis police spokesman Lt. Arturo Camacho said.

The Davis and UC Davis police departments as well as the university in social media posts around 12:30 p.m. asked people to avoid the area, but Camacho told The Sacramento Bee shortly after that time that officers were able to defuse the situation, and the man was detained.

Russell Boulevard is the main roadway located to the north of the university’s main campus. The UC Davis main account tweeted just after 12:40 p.m. that police activity had ended and that the area is safe.
