Man arrested after CHP pursue car from north Sacramento to Rocklin on I-80
A Sacramento man was arrested Wednesday after California Highway Patrol officers chased him down from north Sacramento into Placer County.
In a news release, Auburn-area CHP said Alexander Robert Hurst was taken into custody on suspicion of felony evasion, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
Just before 3 p.m., a white Toyota Yaris failed to stop for CHP in north Sacramento and fled onto Interstate 80 eastbound toward Placer County.
The Yaris continued at speeds reaching 60 miles per hour, avoiding law enforcement spike strips several times, authorities said.
The suspect pulled off the highway at Maple Street in Auburn, got back on headed westbound, then got off again on westbound Taylor Road, where he continued through Loomis at speeds of 30 to 50 mph, according to the news release.
Eventually, the Yaris headed south into Rocklin and was stopped in the Target parking lot on Commons Drive. Hurst, 26, exited the car and fled on foot, where he engaged in a struggle with officers, authorities said.
CHP spokesman Officer David Martinez said the struggle resulted in minor injuries for involved officers.
Hurst was arrested and booked into the Placer County jail on charges of battery, obstructing or resisting an executive officer, obstructing a public official and evading an officer. His next court date is set for Jan. 8.
