2 dead, officer hurt in Davis after domestic dispute and officer-involved shooting.
Two people are dead and an officer was injured after a domestic disturbance call led to an officer-involved shooting Thursday morning in Davis, police said.
Officers responded about 3:40 a.m. to reports of a domestic dispute at a home on Avocet Avenue, Davis Deputy Police Chief Paul Doroshov said.
Police confronted a man at the door of the residence and observed a woman on the floor inside, Doroshov said. The man then physically resisted and was fatally shot by at least one officer during the struggle, Doroshov said.
“Things escalated to a shots fired incident,” Doroshov said.
The suspect and the woman were both pronounced dead at the scene. Doroshov said that at the time of the shooting, about four or five officers were at the scene, but it was not clear whether more than one officer fired shots.
One of the officers was taken to a hospital for injuries Doroshov said were “not serious or life-threatening.” Doroshov did not know the exact cause or nature of those injuries but said they were not gunshot injuries.
Doroshov says the department is in the early stages of both a homicide and officer-involved shooting investigation, and that further details were limited.
Identification of the deceased will be handled by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
