Missing a package? Roseville police recover about 100 pirated from porches

Roseville police nabbed two suspected porch pirates on Friday who authorities say had approximately 100 stolen packages.

Police say they were alerted to a tailgate theft in progress in the 1100 block of Galleria Boulevard that included a description of the thief’s vehicle. Officers spotted the vehicle and carried out a traffic stop, according to a news release.

Police say Movses Dermishyan, 30, and Jacob Booth, 39, were found in possession of the stolen tailgate and approximately 100 packages that had been stolen from across Placer and Sacramento counties.

The two were arrested and booked into the South Placer County Jail on suspicion of grand theft, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, identity theft and possession of narcotics.

A 2019 report by SafeWise found that three of the top 10 metro areas for porch piracy were in California. The San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose area topped the list, while Los Angeles came in ninth and the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto area rounded the list at 10th.

Previous reporting by The Bee documented the theft of nearly 300 packages from an Amador County Post Office, while detailing best practices for preventing porch piracy and the steps customers can take if a package is stolen.
