Suspect jumps into American River after vehicle pursuit, according to Sacramento police
A man was arrested Tuesday after trying to evade police by jumping in a river.
According to Sacramento Police Department Capt. Justin Risley, officers attempted a traffic stop after witnessing a violation around 4 p.m. The pursuit began near B and Ahern streets. The driver led officers to northbound Interstate 5 before exiting his vehicle and jumping into the American River.
Risley said the man held onto the pillar below the freeway and was thrown a life jacket. Risley said the West Sacramento Police Department provided a boat, which was used to take the man into custody.
