Man tackled to ground by police in Fabulous 40s after riding bike, waving ‘weapon or object’

A large police presence was visible Thursday afternoon in the Fabulous 40s section of East Sacramento, after officers responded to a report of a man waving an object, police said.

Police were called at 1:15 p.m. to the area of 43rd and M streets when two residents called 911 to report a man riding a bike and waving an “object or weapon,” said Officer Justin Hanks, a spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department. One caller reported the man had a pole and the other caller reported it was a belt, he said.

Police located the man and tried to detain him, but he did not stop for officers. Officers then followed the man and caught up with him, taking him to the ground after he started fighting, Hanks said.

Fire personnel were called to the scene, according to police scanner traffic.

No injuries were reported and no weapon was found, Hanks said. The identity of the man or whether he was arrested was not immediately released.
