Two Stockton malls placed on lockdown after brawl between youths, authorities say

The Weberstown and Sherwood malls in Stockton closed early Thursday following fights between 150-200 youths, according to the Stockton Police Department.

Police say around 5:30 p.m. they responded to a call at the Weberstown Mall, where they received reports of a large brawl. According to a news release, officers aided mall security in moving the group to the parking lot, where several fights occurred.

Police say the group then traveled across the street to Sherwood Mall, which was quickly locked down by staff. According to the release, Weberstown Mall also entered a lockdown.

Police say that no arrests have been made as of 9 p.m. Thursday. One person was transported to an area hospital to receive treatment for unknown injuries.

In 2017, a similar scene unfolded involving both malls and about 100 youths. Police declared a state of “unlawful assembly” following a fight and had to escort youth out of the parking lot.

Police asked for people to avoid the area Thursday and for anyone with information to contact the Stockton Police Department at 209-937-8377.
