Man killed, suspect sought after ‘targeted’ shooting at south Sacramento drive-thru

Sacramento sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating a deadly shooting early Friday at the drive-thru of a fast food restaurant in south Sacramento.

Deputies responded about 1 a.m. to the McDonald’s on the 4100 block of Florin Road to reports of shots being fired at a drive-thru, according to a news release by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

A man in his late 20s was taken to a hospital a short time later and pronounced dead of a gunshot wound to the upper body, the news release said.

The suspect has been described only as a man in a hooded sweatshirt.

Detectives believe the incident was “a targeted shooting,” but the motive behind it remains unknown, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding said the victim was in a vehicle at the drive-thru, not an employee of the fast food restaurant.

The news release notes that a number of witnesses fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival.

No other details were available. The victim’s identity will be released by the coroner’s office pending notification of family.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
