Chase leads Sacramento police onto Highway 99 in pursuit of stolen vehicle
Police were led on a Sunday morning vehicle pursuit after a car believed to be stolen fled from officers onto Highway 99 in south Sacramento.
Officer Karl Chan, Sacramento Police Department spokesman, said the vehicle was spotted around 6:40 a.m. near the intersection of Florin Road and Luther Drive.
The vehicle took off, driving onto Highway 99 followed by officers, Chan said.
However, the pursuit was called off due to safety concerns when the vehicle started driving through oncoming traffic, headed north in the southbound lanes, Chan said.
Minutes later, the stolen vehicle was found near Highway 99 at 47th Avenue, unoccupied, Chan said. Officers set up a perimeter and began a search for the driver but didn’t find anything, he said.
The driver still has yet to be located, Chan said, and the investigation remains active.
