Outbuilding damaged in Citrus Heights grass fire

An outbuilding was damaged by a grass fire that also threatened 10 homes Friday afternoon in Citrus Heights.

Fire officials say the cause was a spark from a mower.

The fire was reported shortly before 2 p.m. in the area of Sunrise Boulevard and Twin Oaks Avenue, just south of the Sacramento-Placer county line.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District reported that as crews worked to get a line around the fire, other firefighters worked to protect homes threatened to the south on Wonder Lane.

The fire was reported contained with 1 acre burned. The cause has not been determined. Fire officials remind residents that mowing should be done in the cooler, early hours of the day.
